Chaparral's Spring 2019 Literacy Night was a "Camp-In"

HAPPY CAMPERS: Chaparral Elementary’s Literacy Night was a “Camp-In”

February 28, 2019

Teacher Angela Abbate (left) and students laugh at a hilarious group-created Mad Lib. Ms. Abbate and teacher Roberta Encinias (right, out of view, holding pillow) hosted the tent, which was pitched in the hallway, for Chaparral’s Spring 2019 Literacy Night Camp-In.

Down the hall, the Gym was transformed by camp chairs, elaborate paper campfires, and murals of pine trees and stars. Hot dogs were served. Children and parents participated in word games, story-telling, and numerous other literacy-related activities. Books were bestowed and teacher-certified completion of three activities earned a S’more. (No, the marshmallows were not toasted over a campfire. Marshmallow Fluff was substituted. But the other two ingredients were the regulation, time-honored ones.)

Children and adults agreed: It was the BEST. LITERACY. NIGHT. EVER.`
