Parents and Families,

As we are approaching winter break, we would like to thank students, staff, and families for contributing to the Chaparral Community.  We have had an outstanding first semester with many opportunities for our students to grow academically thanks to the support and hard work of everyone. At every grade level, we have focused on Intervention Time in reading, and literacy-based multi-step problems in math. Students are improving their writing through the use of journals in Science, Math and Reading Response. Our dedicated PTA has been active in supporting teachers and classrooms, as have our much-appreciated academic volunteers.

Continuing to call ourselves a great school will require continuous determination and commitment to see that all students, regardless of who they are and how they come to us, leave us better prepared to meet the next set of life’s challenges. Our commitment must also include the development of the curiosity, character, and conscientiousness that will prepare them not only for personal success, but for productive and compassionate citizenship as well. Together, as a community, we are able to work on all of these goals.

Attendance Challenge:  Amy Biehl has taken the attendance competition lead with 95.5% in October and 94.9 % in November.  Chaparral’s average attendance was 94.9% in October and 94.7% in November.

Winter Program:   Chaparral’s Winter Program will feature Band, Spanish Dance Group, Chorus and grades K-2 on Dec. 14 at 8:15 am in the gym and again in the evening of Dec.14  at 6:00 pm in the gym. (Students performing will report to their classrooms at 5:40 pm).

Awards Assembly:  Friday, December 16, 2016.  Grades K-2 Awards Assembly will be from 8:15-9:15 am.  Grades 3-6 will follow starting at 9:15.  Parents of students receiving awards will be sent a letter from the school. All parents and families are welcome to attend this event as we celebrate our students’ success.

Web Pages:  Our new school web pages should be going live soon (mid-December).  Once this occurs, the Wednesday Letter will be posted there weekly and not sent home as a hard copy.

PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports):  We will be returning to the school after Winter Break with a focus on assisting students in internalizing and displaying positive behavior. A committee has created a matirx to guide the school and staff will be using positive feedback to reinforce positive behavior and to redirect negative behavior in a positive direction.

Community Participation: The school community has responded in a very kind and generous way to the Giving Tree (hats, mittens, etc.) and to the Food Drive.  A special Thank you goes to Ms. Beverly for organizing the Giving Tree and to Ms. Vigil for organizing the Food Drive. Thank you to everyone who made a contribution.

Dismissal Dec. 16, 1016:  All elementary students will dismiss at 11:00 on Dec. 16 (Immediately after the awards assembly).  No lunch will be served that day.  Please plan for this dismissal time.  Students return to school on Wednesday Jan. 4, 2017.   Jan. 3, 2017 is a teacher inservice for Technology.
